Tonight the boys had their first kid sleepover.
Our friends Mat and Becca are installing some sound equipment in their living room. Eric is helping Mat at their house tonight, and Becca and their girls are sleeping at our house so the men can work late and not have to worry about waking the kids.
Owen and Jack were so excited to have the girls come over for the sleepover. Owen even asked several times this morning for “quiet time” (Jack’s nap and Owen’s rest) to start. I think he thought he could trick the evening into arriving early if he could just accomplish all the important tasks in the day first….
Becca and I, being practical parents, kept the routine as close to normal as possible. Eat dinner, play, jammies on, teeth brushed, stories read, kids to bed at normal time (all in separate rooms).
Then we lounged, laughed, ate chocolates, drank tea, and talked until midnight.
I found this to be a very successful “sleepover”.
But I do wonder…How long do you think we can get by with this kind of a sleepover? I am assuming that our kids will find out that they are the ones who are supposed to be eating and drinking and laughing late into the night.
I’m hoping for a few more good years…
