Earlier this week, while we were heading away from Luxembourg Playground, a little ladybug landed on Owen’s chair. Owen coaxed it to crawl onto his hand and the two became fast friends. The Luxembourg Ladybug happily crawled back and forth across Owen’s hands for many minutes. Owen decided that it would be impossible for us to leave while the the Lady was happily climbing.
So we waited, and watched the mini explorer. Mostly she explored, but we did notice a strange thing. Twice, the sun went behind the clouds, and the ladybug froze in place. The minute the sun came back out, she crawled again.
Once, the ladybug climbed up Owen’s arm and onto his shirt. The boys thought that was pretty funny, until she ventured onto Owen’s neck which tickled too much.
Jack helped.I never thought a ladybug landing on one of two rambunctious boys would outlast me (waiting for her to fly away) but she did!
It was time to leave, so the boys put their helmets on and got their scooters. They were about to say their good-byes, when Lady climbed right onto Owen’s scooter, ready for a ride.
Owen was very glad that she was going to accompany us home and he and Jack began discussing mini habitats and future vacations with Lady. Unfortunately, the scooter was not to her liking once it got moving.
Owen was sad at first because he hadn’t had closure with the Luxembourg Ladybug. (what have I done to my children?) I convinced Owen that she was well aware of their friendship, and would just rather fly than ride a scooter.
Say hello for us if you see her.
