Jack got a high fever Monday night and has been not feeling well for the last few days. The doctor thinks that hit is unrelated to the surgery, but wants Jack to be watched carefully. Jack is tired of being sick, and it is worrisome to me to have him sick and not know if it is a surgery complication or just a bug.
Jack has needed to stay close to home, and has mostly wanted to sit and be held or watch TV. And thus, the rest of us had to cater to his needs. My niece Sarah spent the last two days with us, and I had plans for a whole day at the pool yesterday and some other fun event today. Instead, poor Sarah sat in the car with a sleeping or whimpering Jack while I ran an errand, and then hung around the house. She did an amazing job entertaining (and sometimes putting up with) Owen who is a little stir crazy being at home for the last few days watching Jack get most of the attention. Sarah endured being shot by various guns, listened to Owen reading Jedi books and telling her other (fascinating) Star Wars facts, washed and cut up fruits and vegies for him (twice), and she even got him to calm down when he got to silly – in a way that was nice enough for him to sternly tell her that she can never leave our house – ever. Sarah also patiently answered a bazillion questions – though she brought many of the questions on herself as she would answer his questions as though she were talking to an adult, and Owen doesn’t like to let words that he doesn’t know simply slide by. That’s fine with me…Owen may just have a college level vocabulary if Sarah spends much more time with us this summer.
